Groundbreaking Milestone: E. 79th Station Reconstruction
This Blue-Green Line station reconstruction is a long-term reinvestment in connectivity, accessibility, and economic opportunity for the E. 79th neighborhood, including the Hillside Community Park area. The new station will provide a reliable connection to jobs and essential services.
GCRTA's "Ride Through Time" Event
When Ohio’s largest transit authority celebrates 50 years of serving its community, it’s cause for celebration. On Saturday, June 21, 2025, Northeast Ohio came out to Settlers Landing in The Flats for a family-friendly afternoon of live entertainment, activities, and a chance to look back through time. GCRTA has a rich history of creating a vital network that continues to evolve to connect Cuyahoga County residents to their future.
Members Reappointed to the Community Advisory Committee
GCRTA reappointed Community Advisory Committee (CAC) members to reinforce public accountability and sustain meaningful community engagement. The CAC serves as the pulse of the community and promoting high-quality transportation programs and services. Through this ongoing partnership, GCRTA ensures community voices directly inform decisions that impact riders and neighborhoods across Greater Cleveland.
“Their continued service strengthens the connection between GCRTA and the communities we serve,” said CAC Board Liaison Anastasia Elder.
More Than a Bus Stop: A Purpose
In September, the Clark-Fulton neighborhood became the home of internationally recognized artist Edra Soto’s La Distancia/The Distance. This public art with a purpose, a GCRTA bus shelter constructed from cast concrete, features the four-pointed star that can be found in working-class homes across Puerto Rico. It’s a reminder of the vibrant cultures that shape Cleveland and is situated at the intersection of Southpointe Drive and Scranton Road outside the MetroHealth Glick Center.
Strengthening Safety and Public Confidence
GCRTA swore in 14 new Transit Police officers in March 2025, strengthening its system-wide commitment to safety. By expanding uniformed presence across stations, vehicles, and transit corridors, GCRTA actively increases riders’ sense of security and reinforces public confidence in the transit system. Investing in safety personnel protects customers and employees while supporting the agency’s broader goal of delivering reliable service in an environment where every rider feels safe.
“These new officers bring unique experiences to GCRTA’s Transit Police, which is immensely valuable in policing,” said Chief Deirdre Jones.
